Project Scope:
Sponsons are large boxes welded to the hull of a vessel to increase the deck load capacity.
Dimensions per sponson : 70m long, 1.5m wide & 10m deep x 150t weight.
The sponsons were installed to the port and starboard side hull of the “Debmar Atlantic” in the Sturrock Drydock.
Project Description:
Fabrication commenced in January 2007. The steel plates were predominately 12mm thick plate for the shell, T bar sections fabricated from 500 x 200 x 16mm x 20mm plate, x 200m in total length and various sections of heavy angles.
Each sponson was made in six sections separated by watertight bulkheads.
Each section has an approximate weight of 25T and was transported to Sturrock Drydock where the vessel, “Debmar Atlantic” was docked for an upgrade. |
